A cross section of the Executive of the Supreme Islamic Council of Sierra Leone led by the President Alhaji Taha Jalloh recently met with the President of the National Olympic Committee to inform them about their plans to organize Islamic games on Eidul Adha Day (Dunkay Pray Day), according to the Vice President of NOC, Alhaji Abdul Karim Sesay who also doubles as Chair of the Islamic Solidarity Sports of Sierra Leone, ISSF-SLE.
Sesay noted that the Council will work in partnership with the Islamic Solidarity Sports Federation of Sierra Leone. President of the Supreme Islamic Council Alhaji Taha Jalloh said that they intend to start with Inter Mosques Athletics Competition in 2018 and then include other sports in the coming years.
He disclosed that they have informed the various mosques for a jam pack event. President of NOC, Dr. Patrick Coker commended the committee for the stride. He noted that he was strongly behind the establishment of the Islamic Solidarity Sports Federation in Sierra Leone and assured the committee of his support. He however encouraged the committee to seek funding elsewhere for the overall success of the event.
The 2018 Eid Day Sports will be another event the ISSF Sierra Leone will partner with the Islamic Umah. Chef de Mission of Sierra Leone Unisa Deen Kargbo said they are looking forward to such event as they want to make sure that they are able to identify athletes during the sports meeting. He said this first edition will be a test case and coming next year they are going to improve on it. 30/6/18
