Sierra Leone National Cycling Association (SLNCA) President, Winston DC Crowther has told executive members that the association will not be able to compete in this year’s Tour de Ivory Coast.
He said the reason for it, is because of funding, which was not available and as an association, they cannot allow the delegation to go by road because of the Ebola epidemic in the sub- region, it was on this grounds they decided to back out of the tour.
He also mentioned that three executive members should have left the shores of Freetown on September 23 to attend a conference in Spain on September 26 but they too will not be making the trip because of the current situation in the country they need to provide their own air ticket and need to fill in other criteria before allowing them to go.
Looking at the financial implications and the constrains, it was decided that they will not attend and he the president, Winston DC Crowther is going to communicate with the international body on such decisions they have taken as an executive and they are going to see reason why they did attend.
He revealed that last year when the situation was normal in the country, he was able to attend the congress in Italy.
He stated that as an association, they are doing their best to explain to people about the Ebola virus in their different communities to complement Government’s effort in the fight against Ebola.
That is why as an association, they will not be organizing any local competition until the situation is normal in the country.
