Athletes representing Sierra Leone in the ECOWAS U-20 Championship secured seven medals; one silver and six bronze medals.
According to Emmanuel Kamara, the team arrived late for the games so they only took part in the second day of the competition on Saturday.
According to Christopher Maduewesi, a journalist who covered the games, after a day of the Championships, Team Nigeria finished top of the medals table amassing: 16 gold medals, nine silver and eight bronze medals. Team Ghana finished 2nd overall with 36 medals: 12 golds, 16 silver and eight bronze medals. Burkina Faso was the 3rd overall winning a total of 6 medals: 1 gold, 1 silver and four bronze.
The highlight of the day, Nigeria’s Joy Udo Gabriel ran one of her best ever 200m race, putting up a great display to beat home favourite, Halutie Hor, clocking a personal best of 23.92s to complete the double.
The President of the Association, Abdul Karim Sesay, said he was impressed with the performances of the athletes even though they missed the first day they were still able to win seven medals.
