Sierra Leone middle distance (800m) female runner, based in the United State of America, Agnes Mansaray was named one of the national athletes of the week in the US by the NCCA and NJCAA on Tuesday January 24th 2017.
The NCCA and NJCA stated on their website, “For the first time this season we have back-to-back National Athletes of the Week and for good reason. One athlete set an all-time world best, while another nearly broke a division record”.
The following athletes were named athlete of the week in their various events; NCAA Division I Men Emmanuel Korir, UTEPNCAA Division I Women Shakima Wimbley, Miami (Fla.) NCAA Division II Men Khallifah Rosser, Cal State LANCAA Division II Women McKenzie Warren, Concordia (Ore.) NCAA Division III Men Connor Christopherson, SUNY Cortland NCAA Division III Women Whitney Simmons, UT-Tyler NJCAA Men Elias Gedyon and Trinidad State JCNJCAA Women Agnes Mansaray, Iowa Central CCof.
According to analysis, week-by-week, Agnes Mansaray is taking over the NJCAA charts. Three weeks ago Mansaray ran the fastest time in NJCAA over 600 meters. Two weeks ago she clocked the quickest time in the 1000 meter.
This past weekend at the Jim Emmerich Alumni Invitational, Mansaray ran the fastest time over 800 meters. Mansaray crossed the finish line in 2:12.33.
National Athlete of the Week is an award selected and presented by the USTFCCCA Communications Staff at the beginning of each week to 8 collegiate outdoor track & field athletes (male and female for each of the three NCAA divisions and the NJCAA).
The award seeks to highlight not only the very best times, marks and scores on a week-to-week basis, but also performances that were significant on the national landscape and/or the latest in a series of strong outings. Quality of competition, suspenseful finishes and other factors also play a role in the decision
