Swedish second tier side, Varmdo IF winger, Sampha Kamara, known by his nickname, Sam Akibo, is eying a call up to the national team Leone Stars.
The former FC Kallon player was part of the squad that represented Sierra Leone at the 2003 U-17 World Cup in Finland. Since then, he has been plying his trade with different football clubs within Finland and other Scandinavian countries across Europe.
Akibo is enjoying playing time at Varmdo IF after recovering from an ankle injury and he has scored three goals from three matches to help place his side second on the Swedish second division table with 14 points. Since 2003, left winger Kamara has had spells with Slovakia side MKF Topolcany, and four other Finish clubs, Atlantis FC, FC Espoo, FC Viikingit and Käpylän Pallo.
Speaking on his recent form, the 28-year old winger says he is in very good form having played three out of seven matches so far.
“I had been working hard with great determination to once again represent my country if only the opportunity is given to me by the technical team.”
Akibo who can play at both the left and right wings added that playing for his national team will be another achievement in his career.
“It is always exciting to play for the national team. I’m highly motivated and looking forward to double the effort and possibly receiving a surprise call-up”.
He hailed Head Coach John Keister and his technical staff. Stating this set of coaches will definitely instil confidence in the players, because they themselves have being on the national team before.
