
The Sierra Leone Open Golf Tournament started on Thursday 23 November 2017 with the professional golfers teeing off along Lumley Beach Road.
The golfer from Zimbabwe, Visitor Mapwanya, is leading with total of 69 after securing 33 on the front nine holes and 36 on the back nine. He is challenged by Gift Willy of Nigeria Paul Kargbo and Idrissa Farnel of Sierra Leone with a total score of 71,71 and 72, over 18 holes.
According to Visitor Mapwanya, the leading player said he was focused and set for the tournament.
According to the Administrative Secretary of the Freetown Golf Club, Sheku T. Bangura, who is also the chief starter, said 31 professional golfers, 19 from Sierra Leone, 3 from the Gambia, 2 each from Nigeria and Senegal and one each from Cameroon, Liberia, Ivory Coast, Ghana and, Zimbabwe.
He revealed that after today’s match 18 will proceed to the second stage of the tournament that will played over the weekend. The weekend tourney will determine the winner.
Amara Kamara is appealing to Sierra Leoneans to go to the Freetown Golf Club to support Sierra Leonean golfers.
