Former Vice President and Acting President of the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA), Mayor J. S. Keifala of Kenema City Council, has tendered an official letter of resignation to the President of Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA), Isha Johansen, on Thursday 25 May 2017.
In a statement release by the FA, it stated that he, J.S Keifala, declined the position of Chairman of the Sierra Leone Premier League Board due to SLFA politics and personal advise from close friends.
The FA furthered that J.S Keifala stated firmly in his resignation letter that his passion for football and sports remains unquestionable.
It could be recalled that stakeholders of the Premier League clubs rejected Kefalas’s appointment since day one citing his political commitment as one major factor.
“We have to set precedence. During Keifala’s days as Acting President in the FA, he stood the grounds that Alpha Timbo shouldn’t be appointed as Board Chairman for the Premier League because he is a political figure. Since that happens during his term in office, he too should follow that trend for the good of the game,” the stakeholders stated.
Meanwhile, Mayor Keifala denied that statement confirming that he only advised Alpha Timbo at that time. He never asked him to resign as Chairman.
The statement further noted that Isha Johansen expressed her regret over the factors that may have led to Keifalas’s decision to step down but she accepted the withdrawal.
“My respect goes out to the Mayor as he has demonstrated that no one single individual can hold a country’s football growth to ransom,” the FA boss said.
According to the statement, the FA will soon commence procedures for the appointment of a new PLB Chairman.
