The President of Sierra Leone Taekwondo, Oness Johnson, said after the training the next step now is to try to identify athletes as by the end of next year they want to have one thousand athletes.
He said the coaches who have been trained have these tasks to make sure that they achieve that at end of next year that was one of the recommendation made by the experts from Nigeria.
That is why we are going to work towards that by starting from the schools – primary and secondary – then move to the communities and those who will be identified will start to undergo training with the technical director.
And the coaches are going to go all over the country and their target will be for the first three months next year to see how many athletes they should have identified. Oness said that will determined the pace of the identification
The technical Director, Mohamed Kamara, said in each community they visit they are going to introduce the sport. They will organize competitions where they will identify potential athletes. Those athletes will be trained by the technical team.
He revealed their target of 1,000 and noted 700 males and 300 females would be ideal. The female will be supervised by Sierra Leone’s first female Black Belt 1st Dan in Taekwondo, Madusu Koroma.
According to Madusu Koroma, she is appealing to females to make themselves available when the technical team visits. “Taekwondo is very good for them in defense.” Presently, she is the only active Taekwondo female fighter in the country which she is not happy about so she said she need more females to come on board.
