The newly elected Director of Women’s Cricket Madam Elizabeth French has said that her focus is to identify young emerging talents in a move to develop female cricket in Sierra Leone.
Madam French expressed her delight to see a fresh group of players playing the sport nationwide.
“My focus is to identify young emerging talent in our country and giving them all the tools needed to be successful both locally and at international level”.
She said in order to develop female cricket, she will take the games to the schools and introduce it to young girls just like what her male counterpart have been doing to up bring young male players.
“I believe with the support structures within the Sierra Leone Cricket Association, we will not just support, develop and mould young talent at school, but also monitor and measure their growth and development through assessment”.
Madam French stated that with the support from SLCA technical committee, appointed coaches, and the current set of senior female players she will be able to successfully achieve her goal.
These coaches she said will also be able to encourage and convince the girls to play the sport whiles the senior players will be there as role models.
This she said will give trust to those that might have interest to play cricket.
“Part of the strategic focus of SLCA is to make the momentum of women’s cricket grow by increase in clubs and players that will replace those currently playing in the league and the national team.
“It is with this goal in mind that these girls will be coached, developed and exposed to cricket in order to equip them to realise their goals as a team under the guidance of the national women’s head coach Sahr Momofoe Kpundeh,” she said.
Madam French concluded that she has promised and have as a goal, to uplift the profile of women’s cricket in the country and this is yet another way of achieving that goal.
