The Ministry of Sports has blasted Sierra Leone football Association after the association in press release stated that they have suspended all football matches in the country until further notice because of the Ebola virus in the country.
It was on these grounds the ministry of sports which sees it as a slap in their face because the football association did not discuss with them, instead they went ahead and take such a decision which they take exception to.
It was in this vain the ministry in their own press release stated that the Ministry of Sports would like to inform the general public that we are fully in support of the His Excellency’s initiative towards the fight against this dangerous epidemic that is killing our people and we will do our best to eradicate this disease.
However, it has come to the notice of the ministry that the Sierra Leone football association has issued a statement suspending all football activities in the country with immediate effect. We are fully aware of the president’s statement to the nation regarding public gathering so they can combat the spread of Ebola and we will do our utmost best to help promote his agenda.
“We request that all sports associations affiliated to the national sports council and the ministry of sports to seek permission from the ministry before issuing any press release contrary to the president’s wish. The ministry would like to disassociate itself from the unilateral decision from the SLFA to issue a press release without any consultation with the ministry which has the full responsibility to supervise all sporting disciplines including the SLFA in Sierra Leone.
The ministry will soon summon a meeting to discuss this Ebola crisis.
