Mercury International (SL) Ltd, Managing Director, Martin E. Michael over the weekend stormed the Kroo Bay Community field to witness the grand final of the 10th edition of Camp Diva Youth championship tagged ‘Alie Suma Golden trophy’ between Mercury FC and Tank FC.
The Mercury Guru, Martin Michael was mobbed by thousand of football fans who believed that he was at the Kroo Bay community not only to motivate the Mercury FC squad but to support grass root football and mix with the less-privilege in slums.
He was interviewed by the former President of SLAJ, Umaru Fofanah of the BBC.
However, the ‘Alie Suma Trophy’ is yet to be decided after the match ended goalless draw in full time and both teams called for a replay match because of bad pitch and the over-congestion of the field which they believe prevented the match to be well-played.
The kick-off of the grand-final was taken by three special guests, including Deputy Minister of Sports, Ishmael Al-Sankoh Conteh, Martin E. Michael and Alie Suma who doubles as the league sponsor.
Other high personalities included Counsillor Alusine Alu Conteh, Mohamed Kamarainba Mansaray, popular female musicians, Willie Jay, Daddy Rhymes to name but a few.
“The Camp Diva Youth Championship is a link that unites the people of Kroo Bay community and people from different communities in the name of football. Football is like a religion to the people of Kroo Bay as they believe that football brings life to the community. So they want the final at the community”.
He added, “We will replay final on Friday 23rd May 2014 at the Kroo Bay Community field but with an alternative to switch over to the national stadium practice field in case there is a heavy pour of rain. ” Charlie Boy stressed.
