Ahead of the long-awaited Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) elective congress, the Chairman of the Retired Football Heroes Foundation, Umaru Deen Sesay, and former national female football team Captain Musu ‘Pele’ Bangura have all declared both their personal and that of their associations’ support for Rodney Michael, who is contesting for the position of president in the August 3rd 2013 elections.
First to declare support for the aspirant Wednesday 24th July 2013 at the St. Anthony Catholic Church Hall at Syke Street during a press conference chaired by Kwame Yankson, was the former Leone Stars’ longest-serving Captain Umaru Deen Sesay who said they as heroes of the country’s football have been left out in the wilderness with no hope for the future.
“However,” he said: “for this particular moment, as far as my association is concerned, we believe Rodney Michael is the right man who can change the face of football in this country and bring sanity to the development of the game. We all know Rodney Michael has what it takes to bring rapid development in football and I believe with him at the helm of affairs, the entire Football Family will benefit because he knows what to do as a sober football administrator.”
Then came the turn of former national female football team Captain Musu ‘Pele’ Bangura, who asserted she and her colleagues are desperate for a change in Sierra Leone football.
She pathetically explained: “the treatment meted to her colleagues by former and present football authorities have left us in total frustration but we believe with Rodney Michael as the next SLFA President, the Female Football League will not only get its former momentum but, will be well structured and organized thereby giving the younger girls out there the opportunity to play football more than us”.
Musu ‘Pele’ Bangura concludes: “I am a lady but sincerely speaking, if we can talk the way forward in terms of developing the current battered state of our football in the last eight years, trust me Rodney Michael is the answer to our problems and this many Sierra Leoneans who have been in the game for a very long time now are aware of.”
Also throwing their support behind Rodney Michael were ‘King’ Kama Dumbuya and Jane Baby ‘Waitman, Bahoi’ all former ex-national footballers.
