
The two communities, Low Cost and Kuntoloh, who booked their place in the first edition of the late Awoko trophy grand final slated for Sunday 19th November 2017 at the Siaka StevensStadium are more determined to win this year’s trophy.
According to AbubakarrDumbuya of Kuntoloh, as a community they have a history of winning first editions of any competition. Sunday is not an exception. As a community, we have the team to achieve that.
The Team Manager of the National Team, Christian Dauda, who gave the winning trophy,best player and highest goal scorer, said he wants to see the game grow that is why he is always coming on board to assist.He also presented a trophy and Le10 million for the winning of the U-14 trophy.
The Director of Sports, Ibrahim Bangura,said for the league to developewe need to start from the community level.
According to James Fofanah (JJ), the chief organizer, 18 communities took part in the competition and Le40 million is at stake with the winner taking home Le25 million and the runner–up Le15 million. He stated, because of the late man’s contribution to the development of football in the country, that is why various communities will compete in the league.
He revealed that the memorial football competition is not for money-making but aimed at tapping future talents for different levels on national teams.
Pa AlieSesay, the younger brother of the late man, said when they came with the idea as a family we agreed because we saw it as a good idea. The late man had done a lot for football.
