Sierra Leone Sports: Kono Diamond Stars FC tussle with SLF

Sports

If the Premier League ever starts, there is already a tussle amongst the Diamond Stars Football Club and the SLFA. The acting General Secretary, Abdul Rahman Swaray, wrote a letter to the Chair Kono District Football Association Koidu, titled, The Current Status of Kono Diamond Stars executive. According to the letter, Swaray said that he has been directed by the executive Committee of the Sierra Leone Football Association in consultation with the SLFA Regional Chair in the Eastern Region, Hon Francis Amara Konuwa and the seven man committee that the current Diamond Stars executive led by C.A Momoh is the recognized and legitimate executive whose mandate is expected to expire in 2020. Reacting to the acting Secretary General, Abu Mansaray, the coordinator of Diamond Stars, said the content of the aforesaid letter is misinforming the general public that SLFA has such mandate to determine who manages the Diamond Stars Football Club. In reaction to the letter, the Management of the Diamond Stars Football Club informed the general public that on the 19th October 2018, the Board of Trustees comprising the Chair Kono District Council, the Mayor of Koidu New Sembehun City Council and the Chair Council of Paramount Chiefs, reached a decision to appoint a new management of the club. In that regard, the public should understand that the Diamond Stars FC is currently managed by the following executive members:

In honor of the above, the management wants to bring to the attention of the SLFA that the club does not only object the misleading content of the aforesaid letter, the management goes further to request a thorough investigation into the motivating factor that led to the publication of such letter. It should be acknowledged that the Diamond Stars FC is a personal property of the Kono people and that the club’s daily affairs are managed by a body appointed by the leadership of the Kono people. On no account should the SLFA try to meddle into the affairs of a private club.
