The scribe of the Swimming Diving & Water Pol0 Association Mohamed Turay told the media that it was the National Olympic Committee (NOC) that supported them with $10,000 to make the trip to Barcelona which they are grateful for.
He stated that during the competition in Barcelona, even though they do not return with medals but they were able to secure very good timing.
He also revealed that because of their performances they have been invited to compete in Ivory Coast and Nigeria, and in December they are going to Italy where they are expecting to go with two female and four male swimmers.
He thanked the Minister of Information Alphan Kanu who helped them to secure visa in Ivory Coast.
He averred that they were amateurs but they have been graduated after their performances in Barcelona.
The Desk officer Pamela Williams said that the association is doing a great job and went further to thank the media for promoting the association and the executive for their determination to take the association to another next level.
The deputy Minister of Sports Al-Sankoh Conteh in his own statement praised the athletes for returning home after the games because in the past many athletes have represented the country abroad and they never returned.
He said for that reason as a ministry they are pleased with the association and the Swimmers. He called on other sporting disciplines to followed suit.
He praised the head coach Bobson Mansaray for his patience with the Swimmers for their improved performance. He also revealed that they will try their best to make the Swimming pool available to them.
The president of the association Dr Deen who chaired the programme said even though they did not win medals but they were able to set a new local record.
As an association they have more to do if they work together as they will achieve more in the sport. He also stated that they will someday win gold Medals if the Ministry, NOC and the association come together to work as a team.
