Former Sierra Leone International Sprinter, Dove Edwin has told this medium that he is impressed with the day Emauni Track and Field classic which took place on Friday 23rd May 2014 at the National Stadium.
He said even though the stadium was not full to its capacity because of the false rumor from one of our local radio sport programme, which reported that the sport meet was cancelled, the organizer were still able to achieve their aims and objectives.
Dove Edwin revealed that 20 years ago, he was running 10.0 secs and he is expecting the current athletes to run 9.9 secs because they have a lot of talents.
He also stated that the brain behind the sport meet, Alhaji Hassan Bangura, has competed in the United States of American that is why, he said, he has decided to organize such sports meet.
Dove Edwin mentioned that he was happy for such meeting and that it will give the organizers the chance to identify athletes from grass root being that he too was identified from the grassroots.
During the day’s meet, Reginald Maseray of Rokel Secondary school won the 100 meters in a time of 10.64. Second place was Julius Morie of Albert Academy with a time of 10.68, and in third position was Chinbalen Grant of Model Secondary school with a time of 11.19.
In the female category, Ballie S. Sesay of Government Rokel won in a time of 12.09. In second positions was Mariama M. Marrah of Methodist Girls High School, in a time of 12.89, and Zainab Jalloh of Methodist Girls High school came third in 13.88 time.
In the 1,500 meters for boys, it was a win for Samuel Sesay of Model with a time of 4; 19; 95. Second position was Mohamed Bangura of Government Rokel in a time of 4; 31; 32.
In the girls 4×400 meters was a win for Government Rokel Secondary School in a time of 4;21;33. In second position was Model in a time of 4;40;52 and Methodist Girls High School was third in time of 4;59;99.
Albert Academy came very strong to win boys 4×100 meters in a time of 44.19; and in second position was Government Rokel Secondary School in a time of 44.50, while the Sierra Leone Grammar School came third in 44.75 time.
For the girls category, it was a win for Methodist Girls High School (MGHS) in a time of 53.06, Government Rokel came second in time of 53.40 and in third position is Government Model Secondary School in a time of 56.13.
According to information reaching this medium, the second edition of the Emauni Track and Field Classic will be held in December this year.
