The national goalkeeper coach, Prince Tamba Moses, said the training in Cameroon, organized by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) was a success.
This is the second goalkeeper coach training he has attended. The first was in 2013 in South Africa, organized by FIFA.
The main purpose of the training is for them to learn how to train goalkeepers. Over the years, goalkeeper coaches have been neglected but this time around FIFA and CAF have come together to make sure that teams or countries playing FIFA and CAF competitions have goalkeeper coaches in their delegations.
He revealed that because goalkeeper coaches were neglected in the country most of his colleagues are discouraged from training goalkeepers. They are not paid and when the national teams or local teams travel they are not usually part of the delegation.
When he returned he asked the SLFA to organize seminars for goalkeeper coaches and also those who are interested in coaching goalkeepers.
We want more goalkeeper coaches to come on board. That will help to reduce the burden on him as the only goalkeeper coach in the country.
Ibrahim Sesay, said, “We are happy to see some of these goalkeeper coaches being trained. It will help them to develop the standard of the game.”
The goalkeepers train themselves, which is bad and that affects them during matches. They are hoping to see this seminar for the local goalkeeper coaches become a reality.
