One of renowned BBC journalists, Farayi Mungazi has lecture some sports journalists in the country and after that gave his experiences in the field of journalism followed by a question and answer section.
He told journalists that credibility should be part of them because as journalist people need to trust you, if you give wrong information you will lose their trust.
That is why journalists need to protect their credibility. He also stated that as a journalist before giving wrong information it is better to say you don’t know which is not a crime.
He also advised them to take themselves seriously if not people will not take them serious.
He said it is not good for people to say as a journalist you are one sided or bias, that is why as a journalist you should not just write anything.
You need to cross check your information and the public will judge not you the journalist.
Mungazi said that has a journalist you should always learn from people who know more than you.
He also mentioned that as a journalist to learn is not a sign of weakness but is a sign of strength.
When asked if he can use hearsay in his report or story he said that it is dangerous because you cannot defend it in the court of law.
