Sierra Leone National Cycling Association (SLNCA) have missed this year’s Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) World Championship held in Ponferrada, Spain. They will also miss the UCI congress that will take place on Friday, September 26th 2014.
According to the UCI President, the UCI Road World Championships is one of the major highlights of the cycling calendar. Riders from all corners of the globe compete for the right to wear the coveted UCI rainbow jersey for a year.
He also stated that the week of the UCI Road World Championships is also an occasion for the UCI Congress; the annual gathering for the global cycling family.
Brian Cookson explained that the UCI operates with a mandate to serve its 179 members. He was therefore “profoundly disappointed” he stated, noting further that as the former President of the National Federation, “I am fully aware of the important contribution that each of the national presidents make to the development of the wonderful sport of cycling as it relates to the entire world as the competitive level.”
He went on to recall the ambiance and camaraderie of the game that follows the conclusion of the congress, which he reveals is of drinks, food and sharing of goodies. This gathering will hold on Friday, 26th September at the Teatro Bergidumin in Ponferrada, between 13hr00 and 14hr30.
Brian Cookson said that each National Federation is guaranteed two (2) complimentary VIP passes to access the UCI lounge for the climax of the UCI Road Championships on Saturday 27th and Sunday, 28th September.
