
Delegates of Sierra Leone National Cycling Association (SLNCA) have on Thursday 6th October 2016 elected Councillor Percy A.J Nicolson as President to run the affairs of the association for the next four years.
The election was held at the Siaka Steven Stadium Presidential Lounge in Freetown.
Out of 72 delegates, Councillor Percy recorded 54 votes’; Franklyn Cole got 13 votes to his belt and incumbent Winston D C Crowther was absent in the entire electoral process claiming he was not duly informed about it.
Before the voting, the Deputy Minister of Sport Ishmail Al Sankoh Conteh told the delegates that the outcome of the election will be unchangeable and advised whosoever wins to work in the interest of the athletes and promote the sport nationwide.
Other stakeholders elected to serve as executive Committee members are Madam Elizabeth French, Curtis Johnson, Bernard Turay, Anthony Bangura, Solomon Collier, Yusif Alie, Percy Nicol and Eustace Thompson.
According to their constitution the above mentioned executive members will hold a closed door meeting where they will decide on which capacity each of them should serve the association.
Shortly after he was elected, Councillor Percy A.J Nicolson thanked the delegates for believing in his ideology to move the association forward.
“You voted for me today because you believed my policies. Now that I have attained the position I will make sure I bring on board each and every member so that our beloved Cycling family will for once rise again.”
He assured the delegates of transparency and good governance. “All we need is transparency which I will humbly run the association with. Am glad you trusted me and I will in turn prove my loyalty to the cyclists and the association as a whole, “he said.
The election was conducted by a three man committee set up by the National Sport Council/Ministry of Sport and it includes Alie Gibril Koroma of the National Olympic Committee, Abdul Junior Koroma from Sport Writers Association and the chairman ASP Murana of Sierra Leone Police and the Sierra Leone Boxing Association.
