The Sierra Leone Cricket Association has re-elected Beresford Bournce-Coker as Chairman of its Board of Directors during its recent elective congress held on Saturday, 25th June 2016 at the Kingtom Community centre in Freetown.
Majority of the delegates decided to elect Mr. Bournce-Coker in an election that was compounded by controversies resulting in the intervention of the Minister of Sports, Ahmed Khanou. Minister Khanou’s intervention ended the controversies and this led to the election.
Bournes-Coker who will be serving his second term as Board Chairman was nominated by Daniel Koroma of Mid-West Cricket Club while his opponent, AIG Philip Wellington was nominated by Tony Morrison of Richmond Cricket Club.
Fifteen (15) of the delegates voted for Beresford Bournes-Coker whiles AIG Wellington received a paltry two votes.
For the position of Vice Chairman, Martin Michael won with 12 votes as against Dr. Morten Harding who got 5 votes.
George Labour went unopposed as Director of Marketing and Daniel Koroma was elected as Secretary to the Board with 14 votes whiles Tony Morrison got 3 votes.
Ainor Scott was unchallenged for the position of Director of Development and Michael Kargbo also went unchallenged as Technical Director, while Elizabeth French was unanimously elected to serve as Director of Female Cricket.
For the other executive positions, Francis Trevor Samura was re-elected as Chief Executive Officer of the Executive and Eustace Jones elected as Vice Chief Executive Officer. Both CEOs were appointed by the Chairman of the Board and approved or voted for by the delegates as advised by the Sports Minister and agreed by members of the association.
Eric Harvey was unchallenged for the position of Administrative Secretary and Samuel John also went unchallenged for Public Relations Officer Position.
Two members were elected to serve as chairmen for two standing committees.
Abubakarr Kargbo was voted for by 13 delegates as chairman of the Disciplinary Committee as against Dr. Monten Harding who only recorded 4 votes, and in the Selection Committee, Dr Monten Harding was unchallenged.
