The Confederation of African Volleyball [CAVB] organized International Referees Course that started on Monday July 22nd will finally come to an end today Friday July 26th 2013 at the Volleyball Secretariat  National Stadium.
This particular course which attracted 18 participants countrywide, is expected to boost the local referees of the Sierra Leone Volleyball Association [SLVA].
This the first International event held in Sierra Leone for aspiring referees in the country under the Moroccan CAVB expert, JAOUD BERRADE.
According to the assistant National coach, Sorie Kamara, the first best six participants in the course will be recommended as National referee after they are expected to officiate at least 21 matches in 3 years before they will be going for international referee course
In the other course, the   Secretary General of the Association Ahmed Khanou stated that the course is for officials who desire to become indoor referees in future. Sierra Leone has never produced International referees since the inception of the association a decade ago. But recently, the association was able to train two officials in the International Referees candidate course in Beach Volleyball in Khartoum, Sudan. One of these two, Mohamed Benson Bawoh is now undergoing a three- year probation before he would be crowned International referee, while his compatriot, Florence Amara who is now a CAVB certified referee will join him in five years, when she could not meet the age criteria of the Course for the FIVB standard.
Ahmed emphasized that it is the aspiration of the association to develop in all aspects of the game to meet International standards.
He said the course is an eye opener for the participants who would receive their attestation to partake in subsequent International courses of the Federation International De Volleyball [FIVB].
