Sierra Leone Sports: Boxing elects new executive

Sierra Leone Boxing Association on Saturday August 17, 2013, elected a new executive that will run the association for the next four years.
Only four positions were contested for out of the sixteen , while the others will be appointed by the executive according to the new AIBA constitution.
The positions voted for are President, Executive Vice President, Secretary General and Treasurer. For the position  of President Eric Dura Sesay went unopposed , while Murana Kamara retained the vice presidency after his opponent Abubakar Kamara step down at the end of the day  Murana secured , twelve votes with one void in the thirteen total vote cast.
For the position of Secretary General  Christian Campbell defeated is opponent  Ibrahim T. Sankoh in the most contested position securing 9 votes  while Sankoh scored three votes with one void. The position for Treasure was a win for Claudia Taylor as she went unopposed securing all the 13 votes.
The other executive positions including the ex-officio members will be appointed by the new executive according to the constitution.
The newly elected president of the association Eric Dura Sesay calls on members to come on board for the development of sports in the country.
He also stated that this executive will be transparent, and accountable to the boxing family and the nation as a whole.
The Secretary General of the association Christian Campbell in his report for the past four said that they have gone through a difficult period as there was not enough funding to do most of their activities but thank Mercury International. Andre Hope and host of others for their support.
Former Treasurer Ibrahim Sankoh in his report told the congress that, ”there is no financial report because we did not get any finance from the sport ministry.” Sankoh stated
The deputy minister Al Sankoh spoke on behalf of the Ministry as he advice them to put their house in order for the good of the sports as the Ministry of Sports will do everything possible to support them while Pamela Williams represented the National Olympic Committee as AIBA has asked to observe the election that is want exactly they are doing to make sure that they go by the AIBA approve constitution so that the association will not be banned or suspended.
The electoral commission was chaired by Alusine O.Kamara who also donated some boxing equipment to the new executive.
