Ahead of the Western Area Football Referees Association (WAFRA) elections today Tuesday June 3, 2014, at the Football Academy at Kingtom, one of the candidates for the Presidency, has petitioned.
The contestant, Michael A.P Bangura petition to the Western Area Football Association (WAFA) on the 28th May 2014 reads;
“I write in the interest of promoting peace and guiding us towards transparent and credible elections to petition against the election date (3rd June 2014) of the Western Area Football Referees Association announced on Wednesday May 28, 2014 by the incumbent Chairman, due to the following reasons.
Article 5.b of the Western Area Football Referees Association constitution states that;
An up to date financial statement and auditor’s report must be presented to the General body two weeks prior to the election date.
Sir, with less than eight days left we are yet to receive the auditor’s report. I believe we need to follow the dictates of the constitution in order to prevent future financial implications.
The Neutral Presiding Officer as requested by Article 6a ii of our constitution is yet to be appointed.
The voters register is yet to be compiled and published.
With all these points stated above sir, I will be grateful if the petition is given the attention it deserves within the shortest possible time”.
Apart from the petition letter, he also told Awoko in an exclusive interview that this present executive instead of accounting for Le36M, they only accounted for Le8M.
He went further to describe the incumbent as a dictator and only few referees are officiating matches while he does not have respect for the constitution which brought him to power.
According to Michael A.P Bangura, he will not stand to see the constitution be destroyed by a few people because of their own interest.
In responding to some of the allegations, the incumbent Sanusi Rashid, said that his administration since he took over has been giving quarterly financial report.
He also mentioned that even on the day of the election, you can nominate somebody and vote for him or her, as their constitution makes provision for that.
Rashid said all what Michael A. P Koroma wrote in the petition letter is not true, as he knows very well that he is going to lose the election, that is why he is trying to find fault but the ballot will tell, if what, he says is true or not.
