Freetown, SIERRA LEONE – Winston D.C. Crowther, the President of the Sierra Leone National Triathlon Association (SLNTA), has announced plans for the country’s first-ever Triathlon National Championship event in Freetown. This groundbreaking competition will showcase the disciplines of swimming, cycling, and running.
Crowther revealed that the National Championship serves as preparation for the upcoming African Zonal Championship, slated to be held in Freetown, possibly in Kent. The event is expected to attract participants from beyond Sierra Leone’s borders.
“In December, we anticipate hosting the African Zonal Championship, and we are diligently preparing for it,” stated Crowther. “Our focus is on ensuring that our association officials are well-equipped to manage this prestigious event. While we will have a technical delegate from abroad to oversee proceedings, it is crucial to have competent local technical officers to collaborate with them.”
Crowther emphasized the importance of having credible officials to oversee the championship, underscoring the need for local expertise to complement international assistance. The SLNTA is committed to ensuring the success of the event and promoting the sport of triathlon within Sierra Leone and across the African continent. BT/13/5/2024
