Freetown, SIERRA LEONE – In a landmark sponsorship deal, Sierra Leone Premier League has officially transitioned into the Leone Rock Premier League. Leone Rock Mining Group (LRMG) is the main sponsor for this year’s league season, scheduled to commence on November 3, 2023.
Salim Sillah, the Chief Executive Officer of Leone Rock Mining Group, announced a substantial sponsorship package worth $80,000 USD (SLL 1.8 billion) towards the Sierra Leone Premier League. As part of this significant sponsorship, LRMG will also provide referee uniforms and kits to ensure professionalism and integrity in the league.
Additionally, Leone Rock Metal Company is generously offering awards for the ‘Player of the Month’ and ‘Coach of the Month’ for eight months. These awards recognize exceptional talent and leadership within the league and serve as inspiration for aspiring athletes and coaches.
LRMG’s commitment extends to the community, as they previously invested over 1 billion Leones in the ‘One Nation Tournament’ earlier this year. Their dedication to Sierra Leone’s development and well-being is commendable.
Victor Lewis, Chairman of the Premier League board, expressed his enthusiasm and commitment to football. He noted that this marks his second tenure as chairman, aiming to make the league even better. Lewis acknowledged the efforts of President Bio, who provided 3.5 billion Leones to kickstart the Sierra Leone Premier League after a five-year hiatus.
Nat Johnson, Vice President of the Sierra Leone Football Association, stated that the Football Association has contributed 1.5 billion Leones to the Premier League, with each team receiving 80 million as seed money. The Minister of Sports, Madam Augusta James Teima, expressed her satisfaction with the deal and promised to monitor the Memorandum of Understanding to ensure all parties comply.
Benson Bawoh, Acting Secretary of the Football Association, announced that this year’s league season would be exceptional, with ten competitions scheduled to begin this year.
