A woman named Zainab Kamara a cookery seller at cowyard section along the Kenema Freetown highway is alleged to have been killed by one Umaru Gbao a carpenter by trade who refused to pay Le2,000 for the
rice he was served.
The accused is currently in police custody at the Kenema Police division helping the police with an investigation into the matter.
Speaking to Awoko at the crime scene at 105 Kenema Freetown highway at cowyard section. An eye witness Eric Fofanah of cowyard explained that the deceased was a cookery seller for the past five years at
cowyard community. He said she is married with five children two female and three male but met her untimely death while selling her cockery at her usual place.
He explained that the accused Umaru Gbao came to the cookery place where they all used to eat and demanded for two thousand Leones rice which was served to him. Having consumed the rice he attempted to go away without paying his bill, Zainab demanded for her money but to no avail and she then followed the accused, few meters from her selling place an argument ensued between them and the accused took a stone and threw it on Zainab which landed on her back. Zainab became furious and took the same stone to retaliate but was stoped by Eric Fofanah and his colleague Philip Vandi. But the suspect further went ahead and
took a stick and hit the deceased on her back again and then walked off.
Eric Fofanah said they consoled Zainab for her to go and continue her business which she did. Few minutes later she felt bad at her selling place and her sister Fatmata Kamara informed Eric about her condition who
then hired a motor bike and took her direct to the government hospital for medical attention and then went to the police station and reported the matter. He said while at the police station the husband Abdurahman
came in and informed them about the death of his wife. He then led the police to the hospital and later cowyard where the accused was then arrested and taken to the Kenema police division.
