Sierra Leonean, UK based music coordinator and producer, Sampha Sisay has hit the cover of FADER magazine.
Sampha is a song writer, beats producer and a music producer.
He is the last of five brothers- Junior, John, Ernest and Sanie Sisay.
His parents Mrs. Binty Sisay and Mr Joseeph Sisay both late now spent their earlier in Kenema District in Sierra Leone.
When his Father a Diamond evaluator got a new job in london, the entire family joined him to start a new life.
Sampha was born few years after his family relocated to the United Kingdom. Since his early childhood Sampha had an ear for good beats and sounds as he jumped on every beats trying to figure out what instrument gave out such sound. At an early age he learned to play the piano and there his carreer started.
At the University he was enrolled to study music production.
Since then his career went on the positive glide.
In 2012, he went to TORONTO to work with Drake on Nothing was the same tracks “The Motion” and “Too much”. He also went to Ghana to work with Solanage (sister of Beyounce) on her music for an upcoming project. A few months later, he travelled to both Los Angeles and Italy to work on early sessions for Kanye West’s THE LIFE OF PABLO, resulting in the vulnerable sounding “Saint Pablo” in which Kanye added to the album four months after its release.
In 2013 Sampha moved from his family home to living by himself in East London all in the bid to search for more opportunities. However his career slowed down when his mother fell ill and he had to joggle taking care of his mother and his music career.
As he remember his mothers’ passing he found a new energy to pursue his dreams as she had once encourage him to fulfill when she found out that her son preferred to be a practical music producer than gaining a theoritical university degree in music.
In 2014 he worked on SBTRKT’S also know as Aaron Jerome album “WONDER WHERE WE LAND”. Where he help write some of the songs.
Our Sierra Leonean brother has written several songs and is recording his album in studios now. Looking forward to its release.
In May he released the Timmy’s prayer and was invited to play piano sessions on 15th June 2106 by the BBC radio 1.
His latest achievment is gracing the cover of FADER magazine breaking the record as the first Sierra Leonean to make cover of a music magzine in London.
When asked how he connect so well and mix shoulders with big celebrity, his friend replies that “ he has a voice that scratched the soul”. On his new album due later this year he explain there are tense bangers beats and tender pop songs to create the hits. He also explains that in his upcoming album, he lays bare the anxiety, grief and love that has shaped his life to adulthood.
In asking about his road to success, Sampha said his mother taught him to be patient. Life can be shitty, but there’s no need to race to get to the top.
