The National Olympic Committee (NOC) of Sierra Leone will host this year’s Olympic Day activities at Rutile on Saturday 21st November 2015.
Last year, Olympic Day activities took place in Bo, the second city. Secretary of the Olympic Day organizing committee, A.G. Koroma who also doubles as the Administrative Secretary of the National Olympic Committee said everything has been put in place to make sure that this year’s activities become a success.
The Olympic Day activities are a call from the International Olympic Committee to commemorate the day of the founding of the modern Olympics.
The reason why the day was taken to Rutile, according to Alie G Koroma, is that the event has been hosted in the following towns and cities: Kenema in 2010, Lungi in 2011, Goderich in 2012, Kissy in 2013, Bo in 2014 and Freetown at all times.
The other reason was the clarion call from senior sports personnel at Sierra Rutile to have this year’s event to be hosted in Rutile. It was on this ground that the NOC accepted it in good faith, as every part of the country has to have the feeling of the Olympic Day activities.
Many members of the Olympic Family who spoke to this medium were very happy as they want to be in that part of the country for the first time and to also see the way people in Sierra Rutile will celebrate with the them as this is the first time the event will take place in that part of the country.
