Innovative Salone has been in existence for four years now, stepping forward to lead positive changes in communities and the country at large and they have been making great effort in order to find the hidden talent based on their programmes.
On Tuesday Innovative Salone celebrated the effort of the hard working individuals who before now could only think of realising their creative potential overseas through a press conference organised at Africell American corner conference hall in Bathurst Street.
The programme Director Innovative Salone Mahmoud Javombo in his statement said that nothing has really changed from the initial vision of his organisation since it was launched through the Global Minimum Innovative Challenge program in Africa.
He furthered that since the inaugural innovative challenge programme in 2012, their network continue to grow. He noted that “the number of creative minds scouted and found, young lives that have been touched, and above all the remarkable experience of seeing youth translating their dreams into reality is not only wonderful but something that reinforces the fact that our country will soon be identified as the hub that nurture and support creative minds in Africa” he averred.
He noted that among the ten finalists for this year, four are from Freetown and the press conference was mainly to celebrate their courage and innovative solution to community problems.
The four finalists from Freetown are the Saint Edwards Secondary school, Sierra Leone Grammar school, Government Technical secondary school and the Annie Walsh Memorial Secondary School, Oswald Tech and Light Salone who jointly proposed to solve one challenge in society.
According to the programme Director, each team will receive $100 to build a prototype noting that an opportunity to get $500 based on potential impact, feasibility and innovation of the sample created.
He furthered that as a commitment to support innovation in Sierra Leone, Innovative Salone is reopening the innovative Lab to the public which was closed due to the ebola scourge.
Charing the programme was Tamba Kpakiwa who maintained that their aim is to empower the youth in Sierra Leone and also create the necessary platform for young innovators to show case their talent.
All four teams were given the opportunity to make a presentation about their project and questions were asked to each team regarding their presentation.
