Hundreds of residents in Gbeika town Dodo Chiefdom Kenema district breath a sign of relief when a WASH manager of an international humanitarian organization Goal Sierra Leone Yambasu Menjor Koker formally handed over a rehabilitated pipe borne water facility to the people of Gbeika town.
Addressing them at the Gbeika court bari Yambasu Menjor Koker described the people of Gbeika as ambitious and hardworking people in term of community work adding this is the second time for him to have worked in Gbeika. He said the facility belongs to all and therefore the security of it is in the hands of all and sundry living in the town. He urged them to continue enforcing the bye laws existing in the community to ensure it sustainability. The WASH manager encouraged the community to provide more latrines for the town adding water is no more of a problem for them. He cautioned them not to allow anyone to destroy the forest especially where their water sources are, but asked them to embark on planting more trees in their communities.
Responding Lansana Bockarie thanked Yambasu Menjor Koker and team and the donor for immediately coming to their aid when in dire need. He explained that the entire water facility was destroyed by wild fire which source was unknown and its destruction not only affected the water facility but several plantation and other agricultural products that is making life uncomfortable for residents. He expressed his happiness about the work adding the entire rubber pipe from the dam in the mountain to the town were all buried underground which is of no threat to fire. He assured the donor that the facility will be used for its intended purpose and he used the opportunity to appeal to Goal Sierra Leone to provide them with laundry place in the town and to change their water tank to bigger one saying the town is growing rapidly after the war. He assured all that they will follow the advice of their donors in protecting the forests in their community.
