As the Anti-Corruption commission (ACC) wraps up its two day training on the creation of stronger monitoring and evaluation (M&E) system for the monitoring of the government of Sierra Leone project’, the participants present have recommended that an M&E Bill be developed.
They made this recommendation during their group presentation on Thursday 30th at Santano House in Freetown.
According to the participants the said Bill should be subsequently developed into an Act. “If we have a procurement Act why not an M&E Act?” they interrogated.
In addition to an M&E Bill, they further recommended for an urgent approval of a national M&E policy adding that all Ministries Departments and Agencies (MDA’s) should have an M&E officer.
Speaking on the importance of an M&E system, the facilitator of the training, Abraham Turay who also is an M&E consultant stated that “every project or activity not properly monitored run the risk of failure.
He said that “it is good to know whether a project is going as planned and whether it is beneficial”.
He further stated that the recommendations are important in that they will be used to spot the problems involved in M&E and at the same time resolve them.
In addition he said they decided that those recommendations come from the participants in order that they share their experiences and suggest solutions.
He called on the public to understand that M&E officers are partners in development and they work in order to help them keep their work on track.
