Sierra Leone News:Airtel flies cancer patient to Ghana

Airtel Sierra Leone, a telecommunications provider, has donated a return plane ticket for a cancer patient to be flown to Ghana for treatment which is unavailable in this country. Thinking Pink Breast Cancer Foundation founder and Chief Executive Officer Cremelda Perkinson Pratt said the donation was timely in attempts to save the life of 23-year old nurse volunteer Khadijah Konneh. She said Airtel has demonstrated its love and care for the people of Sierra Leone by saving the lives of the poor people. She expressed her thanks and appreciation to Airtel for its support towards cancer patients, as the country currently lacks a treatment centre for breast cancer patients. She said arrangements had been concluded for Khadijah Konneh’s treatment at the Ghana Medical Center where cancer treatment is performed. Paying for the air ticket was a major challenge, she said, until recently when they approached Airtel Sierra Leone for help. Airtel Corporate Affairs Manager June Rose Johnson said the company is keen to ensure people’s health. The assistance to pay for the return tocket was supported by the company’s management as part of their contribution to save the life of this cancer patient. Khadijah Konneh, after receiving the travel package, expressed delight that she still has hope of recovery after her treatment in Ghana, and commended Airtel for its gesture.
