Women support Women Sierra Leone’- a local non-governmental organization recently provided a consignment of food and non- food items including clothing to children of The Raining Season (TRS) orphanage at Spur Road.
In her statement, the President of the Organization, Kumba Brewah said her organization which was established in February this year, supports women and girls, especially the less privileged and vulnerable in the form of advocacy and delivery services.
She said that their visions it to ensure that Sierra Leone women and girls are mentally and physically fit to acquire their full potential.
She said they are very happy to be part of the orphanage to share the blessings God has given them with the less- privilege children.
The Deputy Minister of Social Welfare Gender and Children’s Affairs, Mustapha Bai Attila, described the donation as uplifting and commended the organization for their consideration in supporting orphans.
He said such organization is very rare in Sierra Leone and described members of the organization as productive citizenship which is unquestionable.
The deputy Minister said that his Ministry has a child protection policy and therefore has a duty to protect the right and wellbeing of children. He said his Ministry has taken concrete steps to free children from abuse, early marriage, female gential mutilation, and teenage pregnancy among others.
The Minister admonished care givers at the orphanage to contribute to nurture the children in the way of the Lord, adding that it is only God that will pay for their service to the children and for the children to be taught and make education their priority.
The country Director of TRS Quami Agbermodji expressed apprecaiation for the kind gesture which he describe as “remarkable” disclosing that the orphanage was opened by some Americans.
He said the founder of the orphanage will be very happy.
