Majority of the Ebola affected communities are in rural Sierra Leone, lack access to food during the lean season due to the negative impact of the Ebola Virus to food production in 2014 and 2015.
Due to the terrible road network and underdevelopment, beneficiaries of the project are living in abject hunger and poverty as many of them are too weak to find a living.
Mohamed EK Alie, WHH/ECHO project Field Operations Officer said vulnerable groups especially the aged and disabled are the hardest hit by the Ebola Virus Disease including the many survivors, orphans and widows that are directly and indirectly affected by the Ebola Virus Disease in Sierra Leone.
At Dumanagbe village in the Makpele Chiefdom, Pujehun District few miles to the Liberia border, food was distributed to beneficiaries who are mostly vulnerable groups.
According to beneficiaries of the project, the food supply helped many families to put food on the table especially during the lean season when access to food was difficult in their communities.
Beneficiaries expressed thanks and appreciation to the donors and the implementing partner, Welthungerhilfe, for successfully implementing the project to the satisfaction of many people.
The swift intervention by the European Commission Humanitarian Aid and Civil Protection (ECHO) through their implementing partner, Welthungerhilfe (WHH), is providing food to the most vulnerable to complement government efforts in mitigating food insecurity in Sierra Leone during the post Ebola Recovery.
