The World Food Program (WFP) Country Director, Gon Myers has during a courtesy call on the Resident Minister-East, Maya Moiwo Stanley Kaikai disclose that his organization will supply food stuffs to over 20,000 households in Nongowa chiefdom, Kenema district before the 19th to 21st September lockdown.
Announcing his organisation’s intent, Gon Myers thanked Resident Minister Kaikai for the political leadership role he his playing in the wake of the Ebola outbreak in the region. He went on to intimate the Minister that his organization will also very soon introduce an electronic system of distribution and collection of food items which he pointed out is a means stop duplication in food distribution.
He assured the Resident Minister of WFP’s continuous support to the people of Sierra Leone in the fight against the Ebola virus. The WFP Country Director took the opportunity to inform the Minister of WFP moves to Koindu in the Kissi Teng chiefdom, Kailahun district with hundreds of tons of food for distribution to quarantined households.
Minister Kaikai thanked the WFP Country Director for their food and nutritional support to Sierra Leone which he said extends far back to the years of the rebel war.
He however appealed to the WFP for their continuous support to the country, noting that hunger alone is enough to kill the people. Mr. Kaikai assured the Country Director and his team that nobody will pay for registration to access food from WFP and warned that whosoever is caught in the act will face the full penalty of the law. He also assured WFP of his personal support to the Kenema District Ebola Task Force and the security apparatus in ensuring a smooth and fair registration and distribution process. He also assured the food once received will be put to their intended use.
