The General Manager of China Railway Seventh Group (CRSG) Mr Wang Kaige last Saturday at the commissioning of the Youyi Highway said his company is in Sierra Leone to help develop the infrastructure of the country.
“It’s an honor for me to make this speech on behalf of CRSG on this special day. For C.R.S.G and myself, we have worked and lived in this beautiful country for six years, we have been through so many Road projects, such as Makeni-Matotoka Road (35km), Bo-Kenema Road (65km), Wilkinson Road (5.2km), Spur Road (3.38km), Lungi-Port Loko (62km), Regent-Grafton-Kosso Town (11.26km) and so on, the on-going Bottom Mango-Congo Cross, the selected 25 township roads in Freetown, Kissy, Fourah Bay, Mountain Cut and Macauley Street; Mange-Mambolo, Road, Port Loko and Kambia Township Roads. We have witnessed the huge change of Sierra Leone ourselves in the past six years.”
Back to this project, He said most of them should remember clearly the picture and situation of the road two years ago, the vehicles, trucks and other vehicles can hardly passed there before the commencement of the project. It is 11.6km long and most sections located on the mountainside, comprising of 5 new big bridges, in which two of them are more than 100 meters long.
Mr Wang also said the road has 34 culverts and approximately 150 rock cutting, which is an extremely huge working quantity. He said everybody is filled with emotions when he/she passes the road, no matter driving or seeing it. Under the leadership of Chinese Embassy, Economic and Commercial Counselor’s Office, due to the related departments of the Sierra Leone Government in the past two years, the staff of C.R.S.G., Chinese and Sierra Leoneans, worked together day and night. “We have no fears of any difficulties under any conditions, we made sure all activities get well organized and be strictly in accordance with the standard, specifications and the contract conditions to ensure the safety, quality of the road, especially the working period that we did ahead of the time schedule.”
Mr Wang said they succeeded in the construction of the road and they are handing over a beautiful road with high quality to the government of Sierra Leone. “What’s more, this is a meaningful gift to Sierra Leone for their Independence celebration from the people and government of China.”
He said the government and people of Sierra Leone should take this opportunity given to them, he said they are ready for more projects and making more contributions in the field of infrastructure and maintenance. “I want to say: your Excellency, we are ready for your Agenda of prosperity. I want to say: Thank you, all staff of C.R.S.G. in Sierra Leone, I am proud of you, Thank you, All friends, brothers and sisters who have assisted us, supported us and cooperated with us, thank you very much for your cooperation and understanding, we really appreciate.”
He wished the country to succeed in the Agenda for Prosperity and hope Sierra Leone will continue to enjoy the bilateral relationship with China. He said China is a brother and a friend to Sierra Leone and hope the Sino-Sierra Leone friendship will blossom to the fullest.
The China Railway Seventh Group (CRSG) is a subsidiary of the construction conglomerate the China Railway Group (China Railway Engineering Corporation).
In overseas projects, the company has operations in Africa and Saudi Arabia. In West Africa, it is active in Guinea, Mali, Senegal, and Sierra Leone, and operates in the rest of the continent in Tanzania, Mozambique, and Zambia. In these countries the CRSG has been heavily involved in bridge building, including the Dinghiraye and Niger Bridges in Guinea, the Medina and the River in Senegal, the Mpiji Bridge and Ruvu Bridge in Tanzania, and the Gao Bridge in Mali.
