West African Health Organization (WAHO) is building a 40-room hospital between Sierra Leone and Liberia as part of the West African health development programme.
The 40-room regional hospital is under construction at Bo Waterside, Tewor District, Grand Cape Mount, on the border with Sierra Leone.
Speaking at the ground breaking ceremony on Monday, the Deputy Director General of the West African Health Organization (WAHO), Dr. Laurent Assogba, said when completed the hospital will address the health needs of thousands of people in both countries.
Dr. Laurent Assogba averred that the total cost of the hospital is estimated at $440,000 USD. He said the reason for this hospital is to serve the people of the border area of Sierra Leone and Liberia because it will be easy for them to reach than travel hundreds of miles to the main towns.
According to Dr. Assogba, the construction of the facility is his institution’s contribution towards tackling cross-border diseases, and they would not stop at this one, but will plan to construct others across West Africa.
He said WAHO is expected to construct three similar facilities in Liberia, Sierra Leone and Guinea, adding, “The three countries have been chosen because of the effects of the Ebola Virus Disease outbreak that killed thousands of people and rendered hundreds of children as orphans.
