Vice President Alhaji Samuel Sam Sumana has commended the Chinese Ambassador for his relentless effort in making sure China continues to support Sierra Leone in the fight against Ebola.
He made these statements last Friday at the commissioning of the two mobile labs at the Jui hospital.
He said China has proved beyond all reasonable doubt that they are more of a brother than a friend because week after week, they are sending supplies, personnel and equipment to help Sierra Leone win the Ebola battle.
He said he is very thrilled and confident that with the Chinese help, Sierra Leone is sure to win the battle soon. He said the speed at which the Chinese team has been working is good for the breaking of the transmission chain.
The Vice President explained how he paid an unannounced visit to the Jui Hospital during the three-day ‘stay-at-home Ebola tok’, and that he found the Chinese medical team working passionately on setting up the laboratories and admitted, “I was very much impressed with what I saw” and that he was told how they wanted to get the labs up and running so that they can start work in earnest.
“By what I saw and heard, I was convinced that the Chinese doctors know why they are in the country,” VP Sumana stated.
Vice President Sam Sumana recalled that 43 years friendship between Sierra Leone and China noting that the decision by then President Siaka Stevens “was never a mistake” and that it was historically correct and appropriate decision up to date. Sierra Leoneans are seeing and feeling the Chinese contributions to their country and towards the country’s human resource development.
Responding, Ambassador Zhao said he was happy that the Vice President came to visit the hospital unannounced so that he can have first-hand information about what was going on. He reaffirmed that China is a true friend and he will not relent but will continue to work with the government until his term of office expires.
He said he loves Sierra Leone because of the peace and the friendly people around. He said he has cancelled his leave to stay and fight this Ebola. “I want to see the end of Ebola, I want your country to continue the development path and I want to see all the many happy faces I have been seeing when I came last year.”
Ambassador Zhao said Sierra Leone is a very special country to President Xi and to himself, so China will not relent but to continue to offer any help they can to make the country and people healthy and safe.
