The University of Sierra Leone (USL) recently hosted a reception to celebrate three personnel from various arms of the University at the British Council Auditorium in Freetown.
The three were awarded with plaques and gifts in appreciation of their contributions to the University of Sierra Leone in line with the tradition of the University of Sierra Leone. It will be recalled that Professor Victor Strasser-King and Dr. Thomas Yormah (Associate Professor) were both honoured in like manner after the end of their tenure at FBC as Principal and Deputy Vice Chancellor respectively.
Also awarded was Mr. Edward T. Ngandi, who had worked for the University for more than thirty years and recently retired as the Registrar of the University of Sierra Leone. Mr. Ngandi said that the many years at the University had been enjoyable and had opened many doors after retirement. He is currently engaged in many works of life and he believes it was because of the credible roles he played at the University that has paved the way to these opportunities for him.
He is the current President of the National Red Cross and he also holds other key positions in other organizations as well. He said that life after his University of Sierra Leone work experience was good and he was enjoying it!
The second and third personalities were Professors Jonas Redwood Sawyer and Sahr Gevao. Professor Redwood Sawyerr was a former Acting Principal of FBC and the first Deputy Vice Chancellor of the college under the Universities Act 2005 and served for four years. He is currently the Vice Chancellor and Principal of the USL. He said that the Appreciation and Recognition ceremony was to amplify as well as appreciate the dedication and diligent services of the recipients.
Professor Gevao was the first Deputy Vice Chancellor of COMAHS and served in this position for four years. He is currently a Professor and Head of the Department of Hematology at COMAHS. In his statement, he thanked COMAHS and the USL for enabling him to perform his work with diligence. He pledged his continued service to the institution at all times.
The Pro Chancellor of the USL, Rev. Canon Dr. Modupeh Taylor Pearce acknowledged the diligent and genuine work of the three recipients and said that it is pleasing to appreciate genuine work. He said that this appreciation and recognition will serve as a motivation to others to do more for their organisations. All three recipients were very happy and grateful for the recognition. The reception was attended by University staff and family members of the recipients.
