Commercial Bank, Sierra Leone Commercial Bank and Africell yesterday awarded three Sierra Leonean Youth innovators with Le 25m.
According to organizers, the social good summit focuses on where we are headed which is held annually during the United Nations General Assembly week.
The Social Good Summit also focuses on the intersection of technology and new media redefined understanding of human progress, in the midst of the rapidly changing the world.
The summit unites a lively community of global citizens and progressive thought leaders around a common theme with a dynamic exploration of the world we want to live in by 2030.
The social good summit explores how we can unlock technology’s potential to make the world a better place.
The Country Director of UNDP Samuel Doe said the objective of the award is to identify innovative talents working towards addressing the social needs of society to improve livelihoods.
He said the United Nations is keen to promoting innovative ideas to flourish so that communities can be developed with improved living standards.
The Commissioner of the National Youth Commission Anthony Koroma said the innovative awards is part of the social good summit of the United Nations General Assembly.
He called for support towards the innovators in more research and development.
The three innovators built a prototype renewable energy with solar and wind developed by Mohamed Kamara and Fatmata Kondeh whilst teacher Mohamed Kamara developed a software for an automated data records for schools.
Mohamed A Kamara received Le10m for the male category and Fatmata Kondeh won Le10m for the female category whilst Mohamed Bangura received Le5m as runner up.
Distribution of certificates and the cash price to the innovative award winners formed a high point of the ceremony.
