Transnational Sierra Leone Limited will on the 27th November 2013 clock 25 years of operation in the country since they imported the first satellite Television system measured at 16, 20 and 25fts in diameter and took three days to install using a team of ten trained installers. The Chief Executive Officer of Transnational Limited Sierra Leone Limited Adonis Abboud said in 1992 Transnational became the authorised agent of multi choice Africa and from the 1st year up to 1995 subscriber base reached a maximum of 1,800. He said the introduction of the new compact size 80cm dish digital system by DSTv was a revolution in the industry of satellite broadcasting allowing the reception for more than 55 channels in digital quality for which the installation is carried out in a mere 1 hour by an installer. Over the years the subscriber rates were stable. He said in 2008 inflation increased which covered all bouquet but in 2013 it only applied on premium based customers and that prices are determined by the forex fluctuation with an additional 15% Goods and Services Tax. He said transnational currently prides itself as the best in the country. Adonis Abboud while explaining about the background of his business said “it took me six months to learn the technology by climbing and adjusting the dish as many people will clamour at my door to watch TV at OAU villa Hill Station in Freetown” he recalled. He said because of the demand “I did my first importation with ten dishes costing around USD10,000 and we also paid Le75,000 to Sierratel as viewing fees.” “I want to reduce prices but they are being managed by DSTV in South Africa” he said and expressed delight that Sierra Leonean artists are now on DSTV channels. He also complained that GST has caused them to lose some customers to other service providers and that they are also not happy with airtel money products. Addonis also said that “Transnational started with an initial capital of US$ 50,000 but currently we have seven thousand subscribers of DSTv products,” On the issue of technical difficulties with scrambling channels he said sometimes we lose picture but entering three digits can be installed to avoid future scrambling.
