RANSCO-CLSG, on Tuesday, commenced meetings with its engineers and contractors starting with the Owners Engineer, the company responsible for the monitoring and supervision of the two contractors.
TRANSCO-CLSG is an electricity interconnection company mandated by the Heads of State of Cote d’Ivoire, Sierra Leone, Guinea and Liberia to implement the CLSG process, which is an electricity interconnection project, within the four countries. The multi-million dollar energy project will expand energy integration in the sub-region.
Giving a background to the project, the General Manager, Mohammed Sherif, informed journalists at the Sierra Leone office at Sir Samuel Lewis Road, that the “electricity network interconnection project involves the construction of a 1,357 km long double circuit high voltage (225 kv) line to connect the national networks of the four countries.”
He said they have commenced the procurement process. “We have awarded contracts to four companies for the transmission line, and two companies will be in Sierra Leone for Lot 3 and 4”.
About the electricity interconnection between the four countries, Mohammed Sherif “this project will bring cheap electricity to the country… Schools, hospitals, and health centres will have access to electricity. It will reduce the cost of electricity production for businesses, which could easily lead to increase in economy. And, the population will have reliable and affordable electricity”.
The TRANSCO GM furthered, “We are here to begin the kick off meeting with the contractors. We start with two contractors from Sierra Leone and then to Liberia and conclude with the remaining two contractors”. He said the kick-off meeting will start with Owners Engineers since they will be monitoring and supervising the contractors and later a meeting will be held with the contractors”.
The $445,000,000 USD project is funded by the World Bank, Africa Development Bank, European Investment Bank and the German Development Bank, across the four countries. The five-year project started in 2014 to end in 2019. TRANSCO-CLSG is a regional electricity transmission company established by an international treaty to install a 1,303km of transmission line and substations from Cote d’Ivoire linking Liberia, Sierra Leone and Guinea. In few weeks, TRANSCO CLSG management will finalize and award EPC contracts for the transmission line and sub-stations in Cote d’Ivoire and Guinea.
