Sierra Leone News: Tourism drops nearly 13%
The number of visitors who came in through the Lungi airport during the first 11 months of 2014 dropped by about 13%. These travellers who had to fill in forms indicating the purpose of their visit to the country said they were coming for holidays. In January 2014 some 1,532 visitors came in by air but this number dwindled badly down to 191 in November 2014. This shows a nearly (12.46%) 13% drop in visitors who make up mostly the tourist population. The next highest month of arrivals was in April when 1,474 visitors came in, and ofcourse the lowest arrivals (191) was recorded in November 2014 over the 11 months period. This may apparently be due to the Ebola Virus Disease which by that time was very prevalent in Freetown the capital Friday January 09, 2015
