As the fight against Ebola continues to eat in the fabric of the sub-region with Sierra Leone struggling to contain the virus, the Sierra Leone Association of Journalists (SLAJ) has as its own contribution to help contain the virus spread set up an Ebola Response Committee.
This came after a call by journalists that they have been marginalized in the fight against the spread of the virus, and had called on the parent organization SLAJ to see how they can themselves now contribute to the fight against the spread of the Ebola virus.
Journalists then decided to set up a committee that would be the focal point for their interventions against the spread of the virus. The committee was named SLAJs Ebola Response Committee.
Members of the Committee include Dr. Julius Spencer as Chairman, Ransford Wright, Sallieu Sesay, Joshua Nicol, Moses Kargbo, Regina Pratt and Asmaa James.
The mandate of the SLAJ Ebola Response Committee is to coordinate all of SLAJs Ebola response activities. This includes helping to develop content for Ebola messages, and meeting with Institutions, departments, agencies and organisations to coordinate media interventions.
Journalists also agreed to contribute to make concrete donations in the form of their expertise and time to help contain the spread of the virus.
Journalists also decided to donate a quarter page free advert space for Ebola messages and also a 30 minutes free airtime on all radios for the broadcast of Ebola messages.
All of these interventions will be coordinated by the Committee headed by Dr Julius Spencer.
