The winner of the 4/50 jackpot Mrs Betty Hooke has said the winning is not of her own making but that her husband encouraged her to play the game as she is not a Mercury fan compared to her husband who is a fan of Mercury.
She said after her husband told her about the amount of money involved in the game she told her husband that they are going to come together to fight mercury by winning that huge amount of money.
She said from that day on she will always sit with her husband going through the lotto format.
She revealed that on that fateful Friday 1st July when she was going to work she asked her husband for his own number and he gave her 8 numbers mixed with her own which she mixed together and decided to play 13 tickets which summed up to 52 thousand Leones and out of that she was able to win one ticket which summed up to Le 208,200 thousand Leones and after removing the 10 percent NRA she was able to receive a cheque of Le187,130,200
She went further to advice women in particular to come together with their husband to fight mercury by winning from them huge sum of money.
The Managing Director of Mercury Martin Michael said this is the highest money an individual has won from mercury which is history for Betty Hooke.
He said Mercury has changed the lives of many people by winning the game and providing job opportunity for Sierra Leoneans and a host of other things.
He advised Sierra Leoneans above 18 years to play the game to try their chance as Mercury is here to change their lives.
The Chairman for Mercury Charity Foundation Mr Samir Hassaniyeh before presenting the cheque advised Mrs Hooke to use the money wisely noting that she has made history by winning the highest number of money as an individual both in the 5/90 or 4/50 Jackpot.
In another development the sum of Le20,769,800 from Mrs Betty Hooke money was paid to NRA which is one tenth of the winning money and that cheque was presented by Mrs Hooke to the PRO of NRA Ibrahim Bangura.
Mrs Hooke said as a Sierra Leonean she was proud to pay such money to NRA as part of her own contribution to the country.
The NRA PRO Ibrahim Bangura after receiving the cheque said he is proud of Mrs Hooke for complying to the NRA law and also praised mercury for paying the 10 percent of any winner who wins above Le500,000
