Listening to a lady talking about Samir Hassanyeh, I immediately showed interest in what she was saying. She said the first time she met with Samir, she was shocked as she was expecting to see a tall and hefty man, what she saw was a man that was not tall or hefty.
I laughed my head off and remembered the story of Jesus as many Israelites were expecting to see a King riding on a carriage, instead the King was just an ordinary man who was born in a stable and grew up in a carpenter’s shop. Because of these conditions, the Israelites uptil this day refused to accept Jesus as the King.
Samir Hassanyeh might not be a giant physically, but his heart is bigger than any giant. This is a man who has met all kinds of people that he doesn’t know, helping them in whatever way he can.
He is a man who is unassuming, who listens to anybody who crosses his path and render assistance to them in whatever way he can.
Samir Hassanyeh who is the Chairman of Mercury Foundation has done so much for Sierra Leoneans that I believe he is the right man to refer to as ‘GODFATHER’.
He has helped resurrect businesses, he has saved lives, he has recued careers, he has brought families together and he has repaired broken homes. Samir might not be a giant physically, but he is a giant in Sierra Leone.
So many philanthropists are in Sierra Leone, when they give the entire country will know, but Samir is not like that, he doesn’t need to let the public know how he has been helping individuals.
Under the Mercury Charity, so many sporting disciplines and other organizations have had the opportunity to get support from Mercury through Samir.
I believe the government of Sierra Leone should recognize him for all the good works he has done in Sierra Leone. So many people have benefitted from his genuine gesture. He doesn’t want to know your tribe or nationality, he listens to your plea and if convince, will come to your aid.
Samir Hassanyeh is a man of the people, a man who should be respected and recognize for his passion to help people. It is Samir Hassanyeh which has strengthened Sports Writers by making sure Mercury sponsors their annual awards night. We have been very grateful to him and Mercury and we will always support him and Mercury to the fullest because we believe in him and we respect him for who he is.
