The newly appointed leader of the Coalition for Change (C4C) Party in Parliament, Honourable Sahr Emmerson Lamina, of Constituency 030 in Kono, said they will support the best candidate for the Speaker position.
“With my experience in governance issues, my colleague MPs from Kono representing the C4C party, unanimously endorsed me as their Leader in Parliament,” he said, disclosing that the information has been communicated to the Chair and other senior members of the Party hierarchy.
According to him they will meet and discuss the issue of supporting any of the two candidates that will be presented for election as Speaker and Deputy Speaker.
“As at now neither the APC nor the SLPP have met us to discuss on the issue of supporting them in the coming Speaker and Deputy Speaker election but our hands are open to support the best candidate in the interest of country’s development,” he assured.
Hon. Sahr Lamina maintained that C4C is here to stay and provide better leadership for the country, explaining that they will not make the mistake made by previous parties in Parliament to form alliances that will end up killing their party.
“Our party will not die natural death. The Kono people overwhelmingly voted for the C4C, which clearly demonstrates their determination for change,” he said. He added that they will support any bill, agreement or contract brought before Parliament if it’s in the interest of the country’s development. He said he will contribute immensely in the Well of Parliament for a working mining laws to protect the interests of his people and community.
He assured that as the Leader of his Party in Parliament he will ensure they address issues affecting their constituencies and he will try everything possible not to disappoint their constituents and the country as a whole.
He furthered that now that he is in C4C, the development that started when he was the Mayor will continue. Hon. Lamina said the expectations of the people has to be managed.
The first proposed date for the meeting of Parliament for the swearing in process for the newly elected Members of Parliament (MPs) and Paramount Chief Members of Parliament (PCMP) was on Thursday 19 April 2018. It was postponed to Thursday 26 April by the newly appointed Clerk of Parliament, Hon. Paran U. Tarawally.
After a daylong consultative meeting between the administrative wing of Parliament and MPs the meeting date was finally set for Tuesday 24 April 2018.
