Barely half way into their period of stay a good number of Peace Corps will this Thursday be returning home to the United States of America. These America volunteers were largely teachers in over 40 schools across the country and school principals have been left in a quandary on how to fill in the gaps for the rest of the school term. The departure has been confirmed by the Public Affairs Officer (PAO) at the American Embassy Emily Green, who explained “every year a number of Peace Corps are not able to complete their term” for various reasons like “illness, difficulty in adjusting, conduct and suitability, homesickness and other cases.” Emily could not be drawn into rumours making the rounds about a so called party and issues of inappropriate behavior. She maintained she is “not able to comment on the specifics for personal reasons.” She however reiterated “the U.S. government has not changed its policy” adding “the program is continuing in Sierra Leone and we intend to welcome a new group of sixty volunteers this June.” The P.A.O clarified that not all the Peace Corps are leaving the country.
