Sierra Leone News: SLRTA workers taught on integrity in the workplace

The Public Education and Outreach Department of the Anti- Corruption Commission on Saturday trained staff of the Sierra Leone Road Transport Authority (SLRTA) on “Integrity in the workplace”. The training is part of the ACC mandate to give public education to institutions, investigate and also prosecute corruption cases. Addressing her staff members, the SLRTA Executive Director, Dr. Sarah F. Bendu, said the training was conducted as a result of some staff of the institution that were investigated and prosecuted by the ACC. She added: “as we rebrand our institution, we want to leave behind the old trick that that has given the institution a very bad image in public… integrity is all about honesty and fairness. The institution is currently going through transformation process and come next year the institution name will be changed to Sierra Leone Road Safety Authority with new logo and staff uniforms. The Executive Director said “we should work together to raise the integrity profile of this institution. We are not working for ourselves but the good of the country. We want everybody to be safe because safety goes beyond borders. ACC Deputy Director Public Education and Outreach Department, Patrick Sandi said the training is part of the mandate of the ACC, which is to suppress, investigate, prosecute and prevent corruption. He pointed out that the ACC has not only investigated and prosecuted some SLRTA staff; it has also done a System Examination that warranted a public education. The National ACC Strategy, he said is a risk based strategy that examines corruption prone entities like those collecting revenue for government. He warned that the fight against corruption must not be treated with levity, but that it must be taken seriously so that posterity will not judge them. SLRTA Head of Human Resources, Joseph O. Dauda, admonished workers to be of good conducts, and do what will increase public trust in the Institution. Topics taught included: corruption in the workplace, policy and ethics, offences in the ACC Act and Assets Declaration forms were distributed to the various experts. Monday December 08, 2014
